This succession of very different vintages makes Bordeaux a unique place where experience can be learned from, without having the temptation to repeat it! Mixed weather conditions in the spring made the flowering process uneven and caused a little coulure in some of the older Merlot plots. These proportions are not reflected identically in the wine, because the blend varies according to the character of each vintage. However, Cabernet Sauvignon always predominates: it is Cabernet Sauvignon that gives Mouton its rich tannins, its wealth of aroma and flavour and its ageing capacity, while Merlot, an inseparable companion, brings suppleness, roundness and exceptional length. As with other top Médoc wines, the vineyard is densely planted – 10,000 vines per hectare – and the average age of the vines is around 44 years.

Alcohol ABV: 14%
Sweetness: Dry
Acidity pH: 3.89
Blend: 92% Cabernet Sauvignon & 8% Merlot

Maturation: Oaked
Oak Type: French
Harvest date: 1 September - 28 September
Closure Type: Cork

1998 Chateau Haut-Brion – Classical Depth from Pessac-Leognan

The 1998 Chateau Haut-Brion delivers a refined and mature expression of this historic First Growth, shaped by the estate’s distinctive gravel soils and meticulous approach to winemaking.
