2022 Chateau Figeac – A Landmark Vintage from Saint-Émilion's Premier Grand Cru Classé A
The 2022 Chateau Figeac marks a new chapter for one of the Right Bank’s most historic and esteemed estates, newly promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé A status. Situated on the edge of the Pomerol border, Figeac has long been known for its distinctive terroir and high proportion of Cabernet in a Merlot-dominated region. This vintage cements Figeac’s standing as a true benchmark for age-worthy, refined Bordeaux.
Tasting Notes
The 2022 Figeac is both intense and composed, offering a refined bouquet of blackcurrant, graphite, and violet, layered with notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, and mocha. The palate is structured yet lifted, with polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, mineral-laced finish. A harmonious blend of precision and depth, it promises decades of evolution in the cellar.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Figeac’s 2022 vintage is composed of approximately 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, and 30% Merlot, sourced from the estate’s distinctive gravel soils over blue clay and iron-rich subsoils. Vinification was carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by aging in 100% new French oak barrels for 18–20 months. The technical team, led by Frédéric Faye, continues to push quality higher each year with precise selections and gentle extraction.
Investment & Collectibility
Now recognized as one of the most collectible wines on the Right Bank, Figeac has seen significant critical and market appreciation. The 2022 vintage, from a growing season marked by heat and concentration, joins the ranks of 2016 and 2019 as one of the château’s finest modern efforts. Perfect for your collection and a highlight among Bordeaux wines.
Vintage Insights
The 2022 growing season in Bordeaux was hot and dry, yet Figeac’s gravel-heavy soils allowed for deep root penetration and water retention. Despite the intense conditions, the estate achieved remarkable balance, producing a wine of concentration without excess. Harvest was carried out in optimal conditions, resulting in superbly ripe fruit with fresh structure.
