Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé B

2014 Chateau Canon Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, France

LE 1ER GRAND CRU CLASSÉ

Canon’s wines reflect the huge rigour of the saint-emilion plateau. Freshness hones the huge voluptuousness. A pure, clean nectar that draws all of the minerality’s tension. A fine wine. The protruding power of the vine rooted in the rock.

PERSONNALITY

Château Canon offers a masterful, full, direct personality. The opulence of the fruit creates tension with the mineral freshness. A game of light and shadows between the quarries and the plateau. Reflecting the vineyard’s density of sunlight.

Indomitable fullness. A favourite. Ageing potential.

THE TENSION & MINERALITY OF THE PLATEAU

This refined, slender and vertical vintage owes its balance to the sophisticated structure from the limestone soils.

VINTAGE 2014
This harmonious wine is both taut and unctuous. The nose is initially floral with a bouquet which mingles
Provence rose with patchouli and peony. A burst of fruit with hints of spice leads into complex notes of
nougat and cocoa. This very fine vintage holds great promise for future development.

While a step back from the 2015, the 2014 Château Canon is still a strong effort that shows the hallmark elegance of the 2014 vintage. Black raspberries, cherries, exotic spices and lots of floral notes emerge from this medium to full-bodied, extraordinarily elegant, seamless Saint-Emilion that shines for its complexity and nuance more than for power and richness. Drink this beauty anytime over the coming 15-20 years. Reviewed by Jeb Dunnuck, Issue date: November 2017. Drinking window: 2018 - 2038.

The 2014 Canon has a very well-defined, precise bouquet with ebullient raspberry and wild strawberry scents infused with minerals. The aromatics here are utterly captivating. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and very well-judged acidity. There is tension and poise to this Saint Emilion, gently fanning out with a delicate spicy finish that lingers long in the mouth. Though surely destined to be over-shadowed by the extraordinary 2015, this Canon deserves a berth in your cellar. Reviewed by Neal Martin, Issue date: March 2017. Drinking window: 2020 - 2050.
