WINEMAKER NOTES
2006 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Bolgheri – A Defining Modern Tuscany Vintage
The 2006 Sassicaia stands as one of the great benchmark vintages from Tenuta San Guido, capturing the depth, structure, and coastal elegance that have made this wine a pillar of Italy’s fine wine landscape. Sourced from estate vineyards in Bolgheri, the 2006 release reflects the precision and restraint that define Sassicaia’s Bordeaux-inspired yet distinctly Tuscan character.
Tasting Notes
This vintage opens with aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, dried herbs, and subtle tobacco. The palate is structured and refined, shaped by firm tannins and lifted acidity. Layers of dark fruit, graphite, and mineral tension unfold with air, leading to a long, savoury finish that highlights the wine’s depth and aging potential.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Produced primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon with a portion of Cabernet Franc, the 2006 Sassicaia was vinified in temperature-controlled steel tanks and aged in French oak barriques for about two years. The gravelly soils of Bolgheri—reminiscent of those in the Medoc—influence its linear profile and aromatic clarity, while the maritime climate contributes balance and freshness.
Investment & Collectibility
The 2006 vintage is widely regarded as a modern classic for Sassicaia, consistently performing well in secondary markets and demonstrating impressive cellaring longevity. Its combination of regional pedigree, critical acclaim, and restrained production secures its appeal for collectors of Tuscany’s most important wines.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
2006 delivered a steady growing season with warm days, cool nights, and an ideal harvest window. Critics praise this vintage for its concentration, purity, and long-term structure.
