2019 Sassicaia – The Benchmark of Bolgheri
The 2019 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia solidifies its place as a cornerstone of the Tuscan wine identity and one of the world’s most collectible Super Tuscan wines. First crafted in the 1960s to emulate the structure of great Left Bank Bordeaux, Sassicaia has become the region’s first growth equivalent—produced from a singular estate in Bolgheri’s prized coastal terroir.
Tasting Notes
The 2019 vintage shows an elegant balance between concentration and restraint. Aromatics of blackcurrant, crushed stone, pencil shavings, and dark florals unfold into a layered palate framed by fine tannins and bright acidity. The finish is long, mineral, and precise—reflecting the vintage’s natural structure and harmony.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Sourced exclusively from the Sassicaia vineyard within the Tenuta San Guido estate, the blend typically includes around 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. The soils are gravel-rich (“sassi” means stones), lending the wine its signature precision. Aged 24 months in French oak barriques—one-third new—followed by refinement in bottle prior to release.
Investment & Collectibility
Recognized globally as Italy’s most important fine wine, Sassicaia's status among investors rivals First Growth Bordeaux. With 2019 being a critically acclaimed vintage and early drinking beautifully, its long-term aging potential (25–30 years) enhances its desirability. Perfect for your collection.
Vintage Insights
The 2019 growing season in Bolgheri delivered near-ideal conditions: a cool spring, warm but not scorching summer, and optimal harvest timing. This balance allowed for slow phenolic ripening and wines of precision, length, and freshness. Sassicaia 2019 is widely considered one of the finest vintages of the last two decades.
