2016 Chateau Ausone – Limestone Precision from Saint Emilion
The 2016 Chateau Ausone represents one of the most refined and complete expressions of this historic Right Bank estate. Perched atop the limestone plateau of Saint Emilion, Ausone consistently delivers wines of tension, purity, and exceptional longevity. In 2016, these attributes align seamlessly, producing a release that balances depth with remarkable finesse.
Tasting Notes
The aromatics are layered and expressive, revealing black cherry, plum, graphite, and subtle floral tones. On the palate, the wine is tightly structured yet elegant, with fine-grained tannins framing dark fruit, mineral notes, and hints of spice. The finish is long and resonant, driven by freshness and a distinctive limestone signature that continues to unfold with time.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
The blend is dominated by Cabernet Franc with Merlot playing a supporting role, sourced from old vines rooted in pure limestone soils. Fermentation is carried out with careful extraction, followed by aging in French oak barrels. The 2016 growing season provided ideal conditions, allowing for slow ripening and the development of aromatic complexity and structural balance.
Investment & Collectibility
Chateau Ausone remains one of the most limited and sought-after wines of Saint Emilion. The 2016 vintage has quickly become a reference point for modern Right Bank Bordeaux, supported by strong critical acclaim and enduring demand among global collectors.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2016 Bordeaux vintage is widely regarded as exceptional, combining ripeness with precision. At Ausone, these conditions yielded a wine of clarity, structure, and long-term aging potential.
