WINEMAKER NOTES
1989 Chateau Latour – First Growth Pauillac of Proven Endurance
The 1989 Chateau Latour exemplifies the timeless power and longevity of this First Growth Bordeaux. From the heart of Pauillac, Latour’s gravelly soils and old vines produced a wine of remarkable concentration, complexity, and balance that continues to impress collectors more than three decades later.
Tasting Notes
The 1989 Latour displays an evolved bouquet of blackcurrant, tobacco leaf, and cedarwood, framed by notes of graphite, smoke, and hints of truffle. On the palate, it is rich and structured, with layers of dark fruit, cigar box, and subtle earthy minerality. The tannins have softened beautifully, offering a long, persistent finish that underscores the vintage’s maturity and refinement.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
The 1989 Chateau Latour is a Cabernet Sauvignon–driven blend, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The estate’s prime location near the Gironde Estuary provides natural protection from frost and a unique microclimate that fosters consistent ripening. Matured in French oak barrels, the wine reflects both the precision of Latour’s winemaking and the character of a warm vintage.
Investment & Collectibility
As one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates, Château Latour is synonymous with longevity and prestige. The 1989 vintage has proven its ability to age gracefully, now offering both tertiary complexity and continued cellar potential. With its rarity and historical significance, this wine is a must-have for collectors of fine Bordeaux. Perfect for your collection.
