WINEMAKER NOTES
2008 Peter Michael Les Pavots Estate Red – Mountain Structure and Elegance
The 2008 Peter Michael Les Pavots Estate Red is a flagship expression of this Knights Valley estate, combining Bordeaux varietals with a distinctly mountainous sense of place. Sourced from hillside vineyards on the western slopes of Mount St. Helena, Les Pavots is known for its depth, balance, and capacity to age gracefully, and the 2008 vintage reflects these qualities with clarity and restraint.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, graphite, and cedar, layered with subtle notes of tobacco and warm spice. On the palate, it is structured and composed, offering concentrated dark fruit framed by firm yet polished tannins. Fresh acidity provides lift and focus through the mid-palate, carrying into a long, mineral-driven finish that continues to evolve with time.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Les Pavots is a Bordeaux-style blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The estate’s rocky, well-drained soils and elevated sites promote slow, even ripening and natural concentration. Fermentation is conducted with careful extraction, followed by aging in French oak barrels to integrate structure while preserving vineyard character.
Investment & Collectibility
Peter Michael wines are produced in limited quantities and have earned a strong following among collectors worldwide. The 2008 Les Pavots Estate Red has demonstrated excellent longevity and steady demand on the secondary market, appealing to those seeking structured, cellar-worthy California reds with pedigree.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2008 growing season favored balance and precision, producing wines with freshness and definition. Les Pavots from this vintage is recognized for its harmony, structure, and long-term aging potential.
