Domaine Anne Gros Echezeaux Les Loachausses Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits, France

Subtle, harmonious, supple—Burgundy from Domaine Anne Gros is intimately tied with the elegant, poised character of wines from Vosne- Romanée. While each cru faithfully reflects its terroir, it is terroir as translated through Anne’s expert touch, offering richer aromatics, rounder curves, silkier tannins. The combination is irresistible; so much so that Anne’s limited production is snapped up by global collectors faster and faster each vintage. To be sure, Anne Gros is one of the top winemakers in Burgundy today, which explains why her wines inspire such a cult-like following. There have been Gros family members in Vosne since the 1830s; Anne took the reins of her father’s winery (Domaine François Gros) in the late 1980s.

Brought up in one-third new French oak, the 2018 Echezeaux Grand Cru Les Loachausses reveals a medium ruby hue as well as a floral, incredibly elegant bouquet of black cherries, raspberries, spice, dried flowers, mulberries, and forest floor. With beautiful purity, an elegant, silky texture, light tannin, and a great finish, this ethereal, seamless wine will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 15-20. Reviewed by Jeb Dunnuck. Tasting date: November 24, 2020. Drinking window: 2024-2044.

Vinous

(Rating 91-93) The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a clean, refreshing bouquet of lifted red cherry and cranberry fruit, nicely defined with well-integrated oak (40%). The medium-bodied palate shows fine-grained tannins. Quite "transparent" and offers good density toward the mineral-driven finish. Excellent. Reviewed by Neal Martin. Tasting date: November 2019. Drinking window: 2022 - 2048.
