2001 Chateau d'Yquem – Legendary Sauternes of Absolute Precision
The 2001 Chateau d'Yquem stands as one of the greatest sweet wines ever produced, not only in Sauternes but in the history of fine wine. Crafted under extraordinary conditions, this vintage represents the estate’s uncompromising standards, combining immense concentration with clarity, balance, and remarkable longevity.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with layered aromas of apricot, candied citrus peel, acacia honey, and saffron. On the palate, it delivers extraordinary density without weight, unfolding flavors of tropical fruit, marmalade, and subtle spice. Vibrant acidity provides lift and definition, carrying the wine through a long, seamless finish that remains remarkably fresh decades after harvest.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Produced from a blend dominated by Semillon with a smaller portion of Sauvignon Blanc, the 2001 vintage benefited from ideal botrytis development and selective hand harvesting across multiple passes through the vineyard. Fermentation and aging in new French oak barrels enhance texture and complexity while preserving precision. Only the finest parcels were selected, reflecting d'Yquem’s famously strict quality threshold.
Investment & Collectibility
Universally regarded as a reference-point vintage, the 2001 Chateau d'Yquem holds a singular position in the fine wine market. Its rarity, critical acclaim, and unmatched aging potential have secured its status as a cornerstone holding for serious collectors and long-term investors.
