2013 Chateau d’Yquem – Precision and Freshness in a Late Harvest Vintage
The 2013 Chateau d’Yquem reflects the estate’s unwavering commitment to quality in a challenging year, resulting in a Sauternes defined by purity, balance, and remarkable finesse. Produced only after rigorous selection, this vintage emphasizes freshness and detail over sheer opulence, offering a distinctive interpretation of d’Yquem’s legendary style.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of apricot, citrus peel, and acacia honey lead the nose, followed by subtle notes of almond and spice. On the palate, the wine is vibrant and finely layered, combining ripe stone fruit with precise acidity that keeps the sweetness in perfect check. The finish is long and lifted, marked by clarity and an elegant, mineral-driven edge.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
The blend is dominated by Semillon with a smaller portion of Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from meticulously managed gravel and clay-limestone parcels. Grapes were harvested through multiple selective passes to capture botrytized fruit at ideal maturity. Aging in new French oak barrels adds texture while preserving the wine’s tension and aromatic definition.
Investment & Collectibility
Although produced in a smaller quantity than many other vintages, the 2013 Chateau d’Yquem has gained recognition for its refinement and long-term aging potential. Its rarity, combined with the estate’s global reputation, supports sustained collector interest.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2013 season required patience and precision, rewarding careful selection with wines of purity and freshness. At d’Yquem, this approach resulted in a finely etched Sauternes built for graceful evolution.
