WINEMAKER NOTES
2022 Chateau Mouton Rothschild – A Modern First Growth with Monumental Structure
The 2022 Mouton Rothschild is a commanding expression of Pauillac power and First Growth pedigree. One of the five estates in the prestigious First Growth Bordeaux classification, Mouton Rothschild continues to deliver wines that are both intellectual and hedonistic. The 2022 vintage captures the intensity of the growing season with remarkable polish and age-worthy structure.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with brooding aromatics of blackcurrant liqueur, charred graphite, violet, and warm cedar. On the palate, it’s dense and concentrated, unfolding with flavors of plum skin, tobacco leaf, and dark cocoa. The tannins are broad but incredibly fine, with a layered mineral backbone that promises decades of evolution in the cellar. The finish is expansive, persistent, and deeply classic.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Grown in the estate’s iconic gravel soils over a limestone base, the 2022 blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with supporting portions of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Vinified in oak vats and aged in 100% new French oak barrels, Mouton Rothschild is as much a statement of precision as it is of art—reflected in its annually commissioned label by a contemporary artist.
Investment & Collectibility
The 2022 vintage is expected to join the ranks of recent greats like 2016 and 2019. Its low-yield concentration and perfect phenolic ripeness offer long-term value for collectors of Pauillac and First Growth Bordeaux. Perfect for your collection and poised to reward extended aging.
Vintage Insights
The 2022 growing season in Bordeaux was defined by prolonged heat and drought, but Mouton’s deep-rooted vines thrived. Thanks to early canopy management and timely rainfall in mid-August, the grapes achieved exceptional ripeness and structure. The vintage shows concentration without excess—drawing comparisons to revered solar years like 2003 and 2010, but with greater finesse and balance.
