2012 Hourglass Estate Cabernet Sauvignon – Depth and Precision from Napa Valley
The 2012 Hourglass Estate Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the distinctive character of one of Napa Valley’s most geologically complex sites. Sourced from estate vineyards straddling the eastern and western sides of the valley, this bottling showcases the balance, structure, and mineral depth that have become hallmarks of Hourglass.
Tasting Notes
The aromatics unfold with blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite, and subtle floral tones, followed by hints of cocoa and warm spice. On the palate, the wine is layered and focused, delivering dense dark fruit supported by firm yet polished tannins. Fresh acidity provides lift through the mid-palate, leading into a long, composed finish marked by savory and mineral nuance.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
This estate Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from low-yielding vines rooted in volcanic and alluvial soils, contributing both power and tension. Fermentation is handled with careful extraction, followed by aging in French oak barrels to integrate structure without masking site expression. The 2012 growing season provided ideal ripening conditions, resulting in fruit of clarity and balance.
Investment & Collectibility
Hourglass has built a strong following among collectors for its terroir-driven approach and limited production. The 2012 vintage demonstrates excellent aging potential and has maintained steady demand on the secondary market, appealing to those seeking structured, site-specific Napa Valley Cabernet.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2012 Napa Valley vintage is widely regarded as one of the region’s finest of the decade, producing wines of depth, harmony, and longevity. Hourglass capitalized on these conditions with a Cabernet of precision and restraint.
