WINEMAKER NOTES
2016 La Chapelle d’Ausone – Refined Right Bank Precision
The 2016 La Chapelle d’Ausone offers a focused and elegant expression of Saint-Emilion, shaped by the same limestone-rich terroir that defines Chateau Ausone. Produced in limited quantities, this wine reflects meticulous vineyard selection and a style built around balance, structure, and clarity rather than excess weight.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of black cherry, plum, graphite, and subtle floral tones lead the nose. On the palate, the wine is poised and finely detailed, with supple tannins framing dark fruit and mineral elements. Fresh acidity provides lift through the mid-palate, while the finish remains long, polished, and quietly persistent.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
The blend is driven by Cabernet Franc and Merlot sourced from limestone and clay parcels on the slopes of Saint-Emilion. Fermentation is carried out with careful extraction, followed by aging in French oak barrels selected to support texture without overshadowing the wine’s natural expression. The 2016 growing season delivered ideal conditions, allowing for full phenolic ripeness and excellent balance.
Investment & Collectibility
As the second wine of one of Bordeaux’s most revered Right Bank estates, La Chapelle d’Ausone offers a compelling opportunity for collectors seeking pedigree and longevity. The 2016 vintage is especially attractive due to its structure, consistency, and strong reputation within the broader Bordeaux market.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2016 Bordeaux vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest of the decade, producing wines of precision and aging potential. At Ausone, these conditions translated into exceptional purity and structural harmony.
