1er Grand Cru Classé

2000 Chateau Latour, Pauillac, France

WEATHER CONDITIONS
Flowering took place in a mild, wet spring, and damage caused by mildew was accompanied by some outbreaks of flower abortion and uneven grape size in older plots of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Weather conditions greatly improved in June, and rainfall remained below seasonal norms, thereby limiting vigorous growth and, more importantly, stopping the development of the mildew in the spring. Fortunately, the fine weather that followed in July and August allowed the grapes to achieve a rare complexity and maximum temperatures remained conducive to gradual ripening. September continued in much the same way as August, and improved the conditions for ripening. On 19 September, 35 mm of rain washed the grapes of any impurities before the harvests. These began with the Merlot in the Enclos on 22 September and ended on 11 October.

WINE STYLE
Impressive deep, dark colour; the wines have a powerful, balanced structure. The dense structures and the qualities of the tannins may be superior to those of the 96 and 90 vintage. The balance of the Grand Vin combines class, rigour, complexity and great finesse in the fruit.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2000 Latour (a relatively abundant 14,000 cases compared to what they produced in 2009, 2008, or 2005) is “packed and stacked.” The extremely rich, black/purple color to the rim is followed by a wine with some subtle smoke, loads of minerals, a hint of vanilla, and plenty of creme de cassis as well as roasted meat and a slight scorched earth character. Broad, savory, and rich, the wine seems to be about 5 years away from full maturity and should drink well for at least 40-50 more years. A great effort, probably eclipsed only by 2003 and 2009. Reviewed by Robert M. Parker, Jr., Issue date: June 2010. Drinking window: 2010 - 2060.

Packaging & Warm Weather Shipping

To protect wine quality, all orders are packed in EPS foam shippers with gel packs when necessary. During warmer months, we recommend selecting Next Day Air service. If Ground shipping is selected during high temperatures, a signed waiver may be required to release us from liability due to heat exposure.

For OWC (Original Wooden Case) orders, bottles are removed and shipped in foam for safety. The wooden case ships separately via Ground unless otherwise requested.

In periods of extreme weather, we reserve the right to delay shipment until safe conditions return. If you request immediate shipment during such periods, you must confirm in writing and acknowledge that you waive any condition guarantees.

We also offer complimentary temperature-controlled storage for up to 6 months from the date of purchase. Select the “Hold for Weather” option at checkout and we will coordinate shipping at a later date.
