2009 The Mascot – Napa Valley Heritage in a Modern Form

The 2009 The Mascot captures the spirit of Napa Valley through the lens of the Harlan family’s vineyards, drawing fruit from the younger vines of Harlan Estate, BOND, and Promontory. It delivers the pedigree of California’s most sought-after properties in a wine designed for earlier approachability without sacrificing depth or age-worthiness.

Tasting Notes

Expressive and finely structured, the 2009 vintage opens with aromas of blackberry, graphite, cedar, and mocha. The palate shows firm yet polished tannins with layers of cassis, dark chocolate, and savory herbs. The finish is long and graceful, marked by classic Oakville refinement and the precision of its parent estates.

Winemaking & Vineyard Details

Composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon with small portions of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, The Mascot is crafted using traditional fermentation and extended maceration before aging in French oak barrels. Sourced from hillside parcels in Oakville and western Napa Valley, the 2009 vintage benefited from a temperate growing season that preserved freshness and varietal integrity.

Investment & Collectibility

Emerging as one of Napa Valley’s most collectible modern labels, The Mascot offers a unique entry point into the Harlan lineage. The 2009 remains one of the earliest vintages to demonstrate its long-term potential, with a track record of stability and appreciation among fine wine investors.

Vintage Insights & Accolades

The 2009 Napa vintage was defined by even ripening and moderate temperatures, resulting in wines of concentration and finesse. Critics note its classical balance and expressive, terroir-driven profile.
