2012 Chateau Latour – Pauillac’s First Growth Masterpiece
The 2012 Chateau Latour stands as a testament to this First Growth’s unwavering pursuit of precision, longevity, and terroir expression. One of the most revered producers in the Pauillac appellation, Latour continues to set the benchmark for Left Bank Bordeaux with its monumental structure and refined power.
Tasting Notes
This vintage reveals focused aromas of blackcurrant, wet stone, and graphite, with background notes of cedar, violet, and crushed herbs. On the palate, it is tightly coiled and precise, offering layered flavors of cassis, liquorice, and smoke. The tannins are exceptionally fine, guiding the wine through a long, linear, mineral-driven finish.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Located at the southern edge of Pauillac near the Gironde, Château Latour benefits from gravelly soils over clay, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2012 blend consists of approximately **90% Cabernet Sauvignon**, **9% Merlot**, and **1% Petit Verdot**, aged in **100% new French oak barrels**. Despite the vintage's challenges, the estate's rigorous selection and biodynamic practices resulted in a wine of remarkable poise and depth.
Investment & Collectibility
The 2012 Latour was released later than most Bordeaux due to the château’s decision to delay market entry until the wine was ready to drink. As a result, it combines immediate approachability with the estate’s hallmark longevity. With limited release and First Growth status, it holds strong appeal for both collectors and investors. Perfect for your collection.
Vintage Specifics & Accolades
The **2012 vintage** was challenging across Bordeaux, but Pauillac emerged strong, with top estates producing wines of balance, elegance, and subtle power.
