2023 Dominus Estate – Precision Napa Valley Cabernet from Christian Moueix
The 2023 Dominus Estate continues the tradition of restrained power and terroir expression that has defined this historic Napanook vineyard. Guided by Christian Moueix, Dominus stands apart in Napa Valley for its emphasis on balance, site transparency, and long-term aging rather than overt ripeness. The 2023 release reflects that philosophy with clarity and composure.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of blackcurrant, crushed stone, cedar, and graphite emerge immediately, followed by subtle floral and savory notes. On the palate, the wine is structured and refined, with layered dark fruit framed by firm yet polished tannins. Fresh acidity provides lift and precision, carrying through a long, mineral-driven finish that speaks to the gravelly soils of Napanook.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
The blend is centered on Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Farming at Dominus emphasizes dry-farming and minimal intervention to preserve vineyard character. Fermentation is handled parcel by parcel, followed by aging in French oak barrels selected to support structure without overshadowing the wine’s natural profile.
Investment & Collectibility
Dominus Estate remains one of Napa Valley’s most consistently collected wines, prized for its classical structure and proven longevity. The 2023 vintage offers strong potential for extended cellaring and continued demand among collectors seeking site-driven California Cabernet.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2023 growing season favored balance and freshness, yielding wines with measured ripeness and strong structural integrity. Early evaluations highlight precision and age-worthy construction.
