Cerretalto 2018 shows a young and lively red. The nose expresses a mix of fresh red fruits, spices and the usual graphite. On the palate it’s rich and harmonious, showing an elegant and fine structure that fully reflects the 2018 harvest. The finish is balanced and very precise, with a present acidity that perfectly balances the persistence, the deepness and the roundness of this wine.

Vintage Notes
The winter of 2018 was very cold, with temperatures so low that bud break occurred a week later than had been the norm for previous years. Spring rainfall was plentiful. The vines bloomed in the final week of May. Summer began cool, and June and July went by without extreme heat. A large range in diurnal temperatures in the period prior to harvest allowed the grapes to mature slowly and steadily.

Manual, 2nd week of October

Vinification
Manual selection of the grapes before and after destemming, followed by a spontaneous fermentation without the addition of artificial yeast. Maceration is assisted by a falling down system, and everything is carried out inside open cone-shaped and temperature controlled fermenters for 32 days.

Showing dried blackberry, balsam herb, vapor rub and a hint of charred chili spice, this wine offers an aromatic profile that is very much in line with a vintage that saw cool spring temperatures and a hot summer. The Casanova di Neri 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is a wine of depth, dusty tannins and a slightly evolved fruit character. I tasted this 2018 Cerretalto next to the estate's new releases from 2019, and the latter vintage certainly offers more overall clarity and crunch. The Neri family does great work with tannin management, and although there is some chalkiness here, the wine's structure is expertly folded into the fruit concentration. Only 9,700 bottles were made. Orders placed Monday through Thursday before 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time typically ship the same day. Orders placed after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday through Sunday will ship the following Monday.

Packaging & Warm Weather Shipping

To protect wine quality, all orders are packed in EPS foam shippers with gel packs when necessary. During warmer months, we recommend selecting Next Day Air service. If Ground shipping is selected during high temperatures, a signed waiver may be required to release us from liability due to heat exposure.

For OWC (Original Wooden Case) orders, bottles are removed and shipped in foam for safety. The wooden case ships separately via Ground unless otherwise requested.

Weather Holds & Free Storage

In periods of extreme weather, we reserve the right to delay shipment until safe conditions return. If you request immediate shipment during such periods, you must confirm in writing and acknowledge that you waive any condition guarantees.

We also offer complimentary temperature-controlled storage for up to 6 months from the date of purchase. Select the “Hold for Weather” option at checkout and we will coordinate shipping at a later date.

Insurance

We provide free shipping insurance for loss or visible damage during transit, per carrier terms and conditions.

Adult Signature Required

All shipments of alcohol require an adult signature (21+) upon delivery. Carriers will not release packages without adult authorization. Additional charges may apply for re-delivery, redirection, or failed delivery attempts.
