This wine is mind-boggling and has gathered even more body, power, and density than it displayed from barrel.
It is intensely profound, and super-ripe yet harmonious. Its extraordinarily long finish (it tails off with a sweet kirsch kiss) flabbergasted me. I could not help but think of the finishes of two wines I love - Chateau Rayas and Chateau Lafleur. It appears to be holding an enormous amount in reserve, and may ultimately merit higher ratings. It should be held at least ten years, and will easily last through 2020 given proper cellar conditions. Bravo! Reviewed by Pierre Rovani, Issue date: August 1998. Drinking Window: 2008 - 2020.

(Rating 95+). The 1991 La Tache Grand Cru, from magnum, is drinking beautifully. Vivacious red cherries and crushed strawberries almost reluctantly emerge, perhaps the larger format making sure the aromatics are more backward compared to bottles tasted in the past. Light scents of sea spray and crushed rock. Fine tannins frame the palate; it's a structured and assertive La Tache with hints of iodine and white pepper toward the finish. Very persistent and displays exquisite delineation, this superb La Tache needs time in this format. Tasted at the La Paulee in Beaune. Reviewed by Neal Martin, Issue date: November 2022. 1995 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti La Tache Grand Cru Monopole, Cote de Nuits, France
Nothing evokes La Tâche so much as the wonderful portrait of Richelieu by Philippe de Champaigne, which expresses the Cardinal’s fiery and angular authority, a nervous hand posed on the hilt of his sword, while the sword itself is drowned in a luxurious cascade of ermine and velvet. La Tâche is elegance and rigor. Beneath the frequent firmness of its tannins, passion is aflame, restrained by an implacable, courtly elegance.
