TERROIR
The Grand Enclos de Las Cases contains a lot of complexity. Originating mainly from graves of the Quaternary on gravel-sableous and gravelargileous underground, there are also more or less deep and compact clay, sometimes even affluent. The proximity of the Gironde is responsible for this great diversity of soils, created over the course of geological periods by successive superpositions. In addition, the river generates a very specific microclimate that allows for a very early ripening of the grapes and protects the vineyard from frostbite. This combination of geological combinations influences the development of the vineyard and the constitution of the grapes. This unparalleled terroir gives the great wine its unique personality.
MILLESIME 2020
After a rainy and mild winter, a wet and warm spring confirmed the general prematurity that marked this beginning of 2020. Subsequently, the weather became more favourable to a smooth development of the vine and its fruits, although we could regret a smaller volume than the previous year. With low precipitation in the second half of August and good thermal amplitudes, the grapes presented ideal aromatic and phenolic maturity. The Grand Vin de Léoville Las Cases is already complete, fresh and elegant. With an extraordinary length, it combines tension with the fullness of complex aromas with perfect maturity.
