Elegant and complex, the red wine of Château Haut-Brion is very mineral and of a rare complexity, it is distinguished by an astonishing length, this aromatic persistence being the privilege of very great origins.

TASTING NOTE
If the purplish red color augurs a certain density, the agitation reveals
a deep, warm nose, of great maturity.
On the palate, the wine is broad from the start, full from the middle to the end.
The wine is unctuous and its concentration is such that we dare to use the word thick.
But this thickness is not synonymous with heaviness, because the freshness
balances this power. We find in this wine the style of 2005, for the power,
even if the 2009 is even more concentrated. We also find the maturity
and touch of the tannins of the 1990 or 1989 vintages. To sum up the Château
Haut-Brion 2009, we are faced with a 2005 crossbred with 1989.

THE CLIMATE
The vegetative cycle began under a rainy spring. Flowering was regular thanks to the good temperatures and the absence of rain at the end of May – beginning of June. July, August and September were very dry. 2009 is one of the driest years for the ripening period, along with 2000 and 2005, allowing the latter to come to an optimal end. The harvest took place from the last day of August to the first week of October, under dream weather conditions for the winegrower, marked by an almost total absence of rain.

The 2009 Haut-Brion is deep garnet colored and slightly closed and shy to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal sensuous notions of warm blackberries, plum preserves, mulberries and blackcurrant cordial with touches of star anise, mocha and damp soil. Full-bodied, taut and tightly wound in the mouth, the palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit and mineral layers with a very firm frame of ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy. The 2009 Haut-Brion has a less precocious but more detailed bouquet, more nuanced perhaps with warm slates baking in the summer sun, tilled loam and cedar infusing the black fruit, The palate is medium-bodied with the fine tannin, perfect acidity, layers of mineral-rich black fruit. This seems to have gained more complexity in recent years and is beginning to flirt with perfection. It's not there yet, but it is moving in that direction. SHIPPING: During warm summer weather, we recommend to only ship within the United States with Same Day or Next Day Air service to protect the wines from environmental damage. If you would like to waive this protection by shipping Ground, we will request a waiver be signed.

PACKAGING: Our premium wines need optimal temperature consistency, therefore are packaged in EPS foam shippers with gel pack (when needed) and shipped only during ideal weather temperatures.

For OWC (Original Wooden Case) orders, wine bottles will be removed from case and shipped inside a foam shipper box for safety (unless otherwise requested). The wooden case will be shipped separately at Ground service. If faster service is necessary please contact us.

WEATHER HOLD: In adverse temperature conditions, we reserve the right to withhold shipment until ideal temperatures return unless we receive explicit instructions via email to release the wines, voiding any guarantee. We will contact you if a hold is necessary.
