2018 Chateau Cantenac Brown – Classical Margaux with Modern Precision
The 2018 Chateau Cantenac Brown delivers a poised and expressive interpretation of Margaux, shaped by one of the appellation’s most distinctive estates. Situated on deep gravel soils near the plateau of Margaux, the château combines classical structure with refined aromatic detail, a style that has gained increasing attention from collectors in recent vintages.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, violets, graphite, and subtle cedar. On the palate, it is layered and controlled, offering ripe dark fruit supported by polished tannins and fresh acidity. Notes of cocoa, spice, and mineral undertones emerge through the mid-palate, leading into a long, composed finish that reflects the balance of the 2018 vintage.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot playing a supporting role, sourced from well-drained gravel and clay-gravel parcels. Vinification is carried out with careful extraction, followed by aging in French oak barrels. The warm, dry conditions of 2018 allowed for full phenolic ripeness while preserving Margaux’s hallmark elegance.
Investment & Collectibility
Chateau Cantenac Brown has steadily strengthened its reputation among Margaux estates, with recent investments in the winery and vineyards elevating quality. The 2018 vintage stands out for its combination of accessibility and aging potential, making it attractive for collectors seeking value-driven Left Bank Bordeaux.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2018 Bordeaux vintage produced wines of concentration and generosity, balanced by freshness in top terroirs. At Cantenac Brown, these conditions translated into a Margaux of structure, polish, and longevity.
