2012 Marcassin Vineyard Chardonnay

This Chardonnay is renowned for its depth and complexity. It typically displays a rich array of flavors, including lemon zest, green apple, and pear, accented with notes of toasted almond, brioche, and subtle smoky oak. The palate is full-bodied with a creamy texture and a long, lingering finish that echoes minerality and a fine balance of acidity. This wine is crafted with precision, undergoing careful barrel fermentation and aging, which imparts additional layers of complexity and texture.

Marcassin Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012:
The 2012 Pinot Noir is equally impressive, offering a rich tapestry of aromas and flavors. It often features notes of ripe red berries, cherries, and plums, interwoven with hints of violets, earth, and spices. The wine's profile is rounded out by a silky texture and refined tannins, leading to a long, expansive finish. It is known for its elegance and the way it captures the essence of its coastal terroir.

Both wines from this vintage are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs, known for their capacity to age gracefully while maintaining their vibrant fruit and nuanced expressions. The 2012 vintage from Marcassin Vineyard stands out as a testament to the high-quality winemaking and unique terroir of the Sonoma Coast.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard lags the Chardonnay but is still a brilliant wine. Framboise, black cherries, strawberries, forest floor, and earthy nuances all emerge from this Burgundian, layered, powerful 2012 that has loads of sweet fruit. Brought up in new French oak, it doesn't show a hint of oak, has full-bodied richness and depth, and a great, great finish. Drink it anytime over the coming 10-15 years. Reviewed by Jeb Dunnuck. Tasting date: December 13, 2018. Drinking window: 2018-2033.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard, which comes primarily from the Calera clone (although I suspect there are a few mystery clones in their plantings), always seems to remind me of a grand cru from Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, particularly Morey-St.-Denis. Dense ruby/plum, its sweet nose of strawberries, black cherry liqueur, fresh porcini mushrooms and forest floor is followed by a dark, full-bodied, rich and concentrated wine that is supple, dramatic, and even flamboyant. Drink it over the next 12-15 years. Reviewed by Robert M. Parker, Jr. Issue date: March 3, 2016. Drinking window: 2016-2031.
