Provenance & Masters Behind the Bottle

Established in 1972, Shafer Vineyards was founded by John Shafer, a publishing executive turned viticulturist. The estate is now expertly managed by his son, Doug Shafer, who also serves as the winemaker. Doug is particularly renowned for pioneering a meticulous approach to fermentation, leveraging smaller tanks for more nuanced flavor profiles.

Vineyard & Craftsmanship

Nestled in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, the vineyard spans a mere 200 acres, contributing to the scarcity of these treasured wines. Its unique soil composition, a mix of volcanic and loam, complements the primarily Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Attention to detail is evident in their selective harvesting, ensuring only optimal grape clusters make the cut.

Aging & Investment Value

Shafer wines display excellent aging potential, with older vintages gaining complexity without losing vitality. As these wines often reach their peak after a decade or more in the bottle, they provide an enticing investment avenue for collectors, promising both taste and financial rewards.
