2012 Petrus – Pomerol's Benchmark of Merlot Elegance and Depth
The 2012 Petrus represents the singularity of one of Bordeaux’s most storied estates, known globally for crafting rare wines of immense pedigree and longevity. Produced entirely from old-vine Merlot planted on the iconic blue clay plateau of Pomerol, this vintage underscores Petrus’s quiet mastery in a year marked by early challenges and a late-season redemption.
Tasting Notes
The 2012 vintage opens with aromas of black cherries, violets, and subtle undertones of truffle and graphite. The palate is plush but disciplined—velvety Merlot fruit framed by a core of minerality, hints of mocha, and a lift of crushed herbs. The tannins are fine yet persistent, creating a long and graceful finish that suggests a slow, steady evolution in bottle.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Crafted from a single 11.4-hectare vineyard on the plateau of Pomerol, Petrus is unique in its composition: 100% Merlot grown on deep, iron-rich blue clay soils. The 2012 harvest was carried out parcel by parcel to ensure ideal ripeness. Fermentation took place in concrete vats, followed by aging in 50% new French oak for 16 to 18 months. As always, Petrus is bottled without fining or filtration to preserve the wine’s natural texture and integrity.
Investment & Collectibility
Among the most sought-after wines globally, Petrus is a cornerstone of fine wine investment. The 2012 vintage is a study in balance and resilience—less opulent than the 2009 or 2010, but incredibly refined and age-worthy. With limited availability and global demand, it remains a prized acquisition for serious collectors. Perfect for your collection.
Vintage Insights
The 2012 vintage in Pomerol began with a wet spring and early flowering difficulties, but a warm, dry summer allowed for a steady maturation. Harvests took place in optimal late September conditions. Unlike the more structured Left Bank wines of the year, Right Bank Merlot, particularly from Pomerol, thrived—delivering purity, softness, and aromatic lift. The vintage is often praised for its accessibility and depth without excessive power.

Packaging & Temperature-Sensitive Shipping
To protect wine quality, all orders are packed in EPS foam shippers, with gel packs when necessary.
Wine is temperature-sensitive and may be affected by excessive heat, freezing temperatures, or significant temperature fluctuations during transit. During periods of elevated temperature risk, we strongly recommend selecting Next Day Air service whenever available.
Customers requesting shipment during warm or cold weather conditions must review and agree to our Temperature Protection & Shipping Policy. By requesting shipment, customers acknowledge and accept the risks associated with temperature exposure, carrier delays, failed delivery attempts, and other transit-related conditions outside of Angry Wine Merchant's control.
For OWC (Original Wooden Case) orders, bottles are removed and shipped in foam for safety. The wooden case ships separately via Ground unless otherwise requested.
Weather Holds & Free Storage
In periods of extreme heat or cold, we reserve the right to delay shipment until safer conditions return. Customers may also request that we hold an order for future shipment.
We offer complimentary temperature-controlled storage for up to 6 months from the date of purchase. Select the "Hold for Weather" option at checkout and we will coordinate shipping at a later date.
Insurance
We provide free shipping insurance for loss or visible damage during transit, subject to carrier terms and conditions.
Shipping insurance does not cover deterioration in wine condition resulting from heat exposure, freezing temperatures, temperature fluctuations, carrier delays, missed delivery attempts, carrier holds, or other temperature-related transit conditions. Please review our Temperature Protection & Shipping Policy for more information.
Adult Signature Required
All shipments of alcohol require an adult signature (21+) upon delivery. Carriers will not release packages without adult authorization.
Customers are responsible for ensuring that an eligible adult is available to receive the shipment on the first delivery attempt. Additional charges may apply for re-delivery, redirection, failed delivery attempts, returned shipments, or reshipment.
