WINEMAKER NOTES
2000 BOND Matriarch – Mature Napa Valley Cabernet Blend
The 2000 BOND Matriarch offers a mature expression from the early years of one of Napa Valley's most closely followed estates. Connected to the Harlan family and the development of the BOND vineyard portfolio, Matriarch brings together selected lots in a Cabernet-driven wine shaped by careful blending, measured structure, and extended bottle development.
Tasting Notes
The bouquet opens with blackcurrant, dried blackberry, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, and gentle forest-floor notes. On the palate, mature dark fruit is supported by integrated tannins and steady acidity. Hints of cocoa, leather, savory herb, and crushed stone develop through a composed finish, reflecting the character of a Napa Valley red with more than two decades of evolution.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Matriarch is assembled from selected Cabernet-based lots associated with the BOND winegrowing program. The wine was matured in French oak to refine its structure and bring the individual components together. Careful lot selection and blending emphasize balance, aromatic detail, and a consistent Napa Valley identity rather than the character of a single vineyard.
Investment & Collectibility
Early releases of BOND Matriarch are increasingly difficult to locate, particularly with documented provenance and careful storage. The 2000 vintage holds interest for collectors seeking mature Napa Valley Cabernet blends connected to the Harlan family, as well as those building vertical collections of BOND and its related labels.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2000 Napa Valley season produced structured Cabernet-based wines that have developed toward savory complexity with age. This mature release should be assessed with particular attention to bottle condition, fill level, storage history, and provenance.
