2016 Dows Vintage Port – Structured and Dry Style from the Douro
The 2016 Dows Vintage Port reflects the house’s distinctive style, known for its drier profile and firm structure. Produced from top vineyards in the Douro Valley, Dows consistently delivers Vintage Ports with precision and aging potential. The 2016 declaration stands among the most respected of recent decades, offering both depth and restraint.
Tasting Notes
The nose reveals aromas of blackberry, cassis, and subtle herbal tones alongside dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is structured and focused, delivering concentrated black fruit supported by firm tannins and a slightly drier finish than many counterparts. Notes of spice, graphite, and mineral tones emerge through a long, composed finish.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Produced from traditional Douro varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz, the wine is sourced from Dows key vineyards such as Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira. Fermentation is halted with grape spirit to retain natural sugars, followed by aging in large oak vats prior to bottling. The 2016 growing season provided ideal balance between ripeness and freshness.
Investment & Collectibility
The 2016 vintage is widely regarded as a benchmark declaration. Dows Vintage Port is particularly valued for its structure and longevity, appealing to collectors seeking wines that develop steadily over extended cellaring.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2016 Douro vintage produced wines of depth, balance, and freshness. At Dows, these conditions resulted in a wine defined by precision and long-term aging potential.
