2013 Peter Michael Le Caprice - Collectible Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
The 2013 Peter Michael Le Caprice Pinot Noir is a refined, limited-production expression from one of California's most respected estates. Produced from Sonoma Coast fruit, Le Caprice reflects Peter Michael Winery's Burgundian-inspired approach to Pinot Noir, combining ripe California fruit with freshness, savory complexity, and fine structure. With more than a decade of bottle age, the 2013 offers compelling appeal for collectors of mature California Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes
The 2013 Le Caprice opens with black raspberry, red and black currant, cherry, and floral aromas, followed by forest floor, herbs, and savory notes. With air, layers of rose petal, spice, stone, and subtle coastal salinity add complexity. Medium to full bodied, the palate is supple and expansive, supported by fine tannins and bright acidity. The finish is persistent and mineral driven, balancing mature complexity with the freshness and elegance characteristic of cool-climate Pinot Noir.
Winemaking and Vineyard Details
Le Caprice is produced from 100% Pinot Noir and represents Peter Michael Winery's focus on limited-production, site-driven wines. The estate's Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir program draws inspiration from Burgundy while expressing the distinctive conditions of California's cool coastal landscape. Approximately 1,630 cases of the 2013 Le Caprice were produced, underscoring its relatively limited availability.
Investment and Collectibility
Peter Michael Winery has established a strong following among collectors for its small-production Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Bordeaux-variety wines. Mature vintages of Le Caprice are increasingly limited in the market, and the 2013 combines meaningful bottle age, critical recognition, and the established reputation of the Peter Michael estate.
Vintage Insights and Accolades
Critical reviews highlight the 2013 for its aromatic complexity, silky texture, vibrant acidity, savory character, and persistent finish. Its balance of mature fruit and freshness has helped the wine develop gracefully while retaining structural definition.
