2005 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Cuvee Vieilles Vignes – Mature Grand Cru Burgundy
The 2005 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Cuvee Vieilles Vignes reflects both the pedigree of this Grand Cru site and the domaine’s traditional approach to winemaking. Ponsot is known for producing long-lived Burgundy with minimal intervention, and Clos de la Roche stands among the most structured vineyards in the Cote de Nuits. The 2005 vintage, widely regarded as a benchmark year, offers depth and longevity.
Tasting Notes
The nose reveals aromas of black cherry, dried strawberry, forest floor, and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is layered and evolving, offering red and dark fruit supported by fine, integrated tannins. Notes of earth, mushroom, and mineral tones develop through a long, complex finish that reflects both maturity and site character.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Sourced from old vines within Clos de la Roche, the Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is produced without excessive intervention to preserve terroir expression. Fermentation occurs with careful extraction, followed by extended aging in oak barrels to develop structure and complexity. The 2005 growing season provided ideal conditions for ripeness and balance in Burgundy.
Investment & Collectibility
Domaine Ponsot wines from mature vintages are increasingly difficult to source. The 2005 Clos de la Roche Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is particularly sought after due to the strength of the vintage and the domaine’s reputation for longevity, making it a considered addition to Burgundy-focused collections.
