2017 Sine Qua Non The Hated Hunter Syrah – California’s Visionary Cult Wine
The 2017 Sine Qua Non “The Hated Hunter” Syrah exemplifies the artistry of winemaker Manfred Krankl, whose groundbreaking approach has made Sine Qua Non one of the most collectible names in California Cult Wines. Produced in extremely limited quantities and released only to the estate’s mailing list, this Syrah is a striking showcase of balance, depth, and individuality.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of black plum, blueberry compote, and smoked meat intertwine with notes of violets, black pepper, and incense. The palate is dense yet refined, with layers of blackberry, espresso, and tar, supported by supple tannins and a long, savory finish that carries mineral and spice undertones. The 2017 vintage delivers both power and elegance in equal measure.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
The Hated Hunter is composed primarily of Syrah, blended with small percentages of Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Viognier, sourced from Sine Qua Non’s estate vineyards in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Fermented in small open-top vats and aged in French oak barrels, a significant proportion of which are new, the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve purity and texture.
Investment & Collectibility
The 2017 Sine Qua Non The Hated Hunter is highly collectible, as with all SQN releases. With limited allocations and consistently high critic scores, this Syrah is sought after worldwide by serious collectors. Its unique artistry and scarcity make it a crown jewel in any California collection. Perfect for your collection.
Vintage Specifics & Accolades
The 2017 vintage in California was marked by a warm growing season with an early harvest, producing concentrated wines with rich aromatics and finely balanced tannins. Sine Qua Non once again delivered a wine of remarkable poise and individuality.
