WINEMAKER NOTES
2000 Chateau Leoville-Las Cases – Saint-Julien’s Grand Vin of Precision and Power
The 2000 Chateau Léoville-Las Cases, also known as the “Grand Vin de Léoville,” is a towering example of Left Bank structure and elegance. From one of the oldest and most revered estates in Saint-Julien, this Second Growth Bordeaux rivals the First Growths in pedigree, complexity, and longevity.
Tasting Notes
Profound aromas of cassis, black cherry, and graphite are layered with notes of cedar, smoke, and tobacco leaf. The palate is powerful yet refined, with tightly knit tannins, a core of dark fruit, and a long, mineral-laced finish. Still evolving beautifully with over two decades in bottle.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
The estate's vineyards lie adjacent to Château Latour, benefitting from deep gravel soils and optimal drainage. The 2000 vintage is a blend of approximately 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc, matured in 100% new French oak barrels for 18–20 months. The meticulous vineyard management and low yields contribute to remarkable purity and structure.
Investment & Collectibility
The 2000 Léoville-Las Cases is widely considered one of the greatest wines of this legendary vintage. Its incredible aging capacity and near-First Growth quality make it a highly collectible asset in any fine wine cellar. Perfect for your collection.
Vintage Specifics & Accolades
The 2000 vintage across Bordeaux produced wines of concentration, precision, and longevity—particularly exceptional for Cabernet-based blends from the Left Bank.
