WINEMAKER NOTES
2000 Chateau Palmer - Classic Margaux with Exceptional Aging Potential
The 2000 Chateau Palmer is a distinguished expression of one of Margaux's most celebrated estates. Classified as a Third Growth in 1855 yet long regarded among Bordeaux's elite properties, Palmer is known for combining the perfume and finesse of Margaux with remarkable richness and texture. The highly regarded 2000 vintage delivers that signature character with concentration, maturity, and impressive longevity.
Tasting Notes
The bouquet is complex and expressive, with blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, and violet joined by cedar, leather, tobacco, cocoa, and subtle smoke. The palate is generous and beautifully textured, showing mature dark fruit supported by velvety tannins and fresh acidity. Notes of graphite, anise, spice, and earth emerge with time, leading to a long, layered finish that balances power with the elegance associated with Chateau Palmer.
Winemaking and Vineyard Details
The 2000 Chateau Palmer is composed of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot. Following a particularly wet spring, dry and sunny weather arrived in mid-July and continued through harvest, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. Harvest took place from September 21 through October 7. The estate noted extraordinary phenolic richness, ripe tannins, and sufficient acidity, all contributing to the wine's considerable aging potential.
Investment and Collectibility
Chateau Palmer has an established international following among collectors, and mature vintages from exceptional Bordeaux years are particularly sought after. The combination of the celebrated 2000 vintage, Palmer's limited production, strong critical record, and proven ability to develop over decades gives this release enduring appeal for collectors of mature Margaux.
Vintage Insights and Accolades
Chateau Palmer describes 2000 as a classic vintage distinguished by dense color, a powerful and complex nose, an imposing palate, exceptional length, and outstanding potential for long-term development.
