WINEMAKER NOTES
1990 Clos de Tart Grand Cru Monopole – Historic Grand Cru Burgundy
The 1990 Clos de Tart Grand Cru Monopole stands among the most significant mature Burgundies from a celebrated vintage. As one of the largest Grand Cru monopoles in the Cote de Nuits, Clos de Tart possesses a distinct identity shaped by centuries of continuous ownership and a remarkable diversity of vine age and terroir. The acclaimed 1990 vintage delivered wines of depth, balance, and exceptional longevity, qualities that are fully evident in this mature release.
Tasting Notes
The bouquet offers layered aromas of black cherry, dried raspberry, rose petal, forest floor, truffle, and exotic spice. On the palate, the wine displays remarkable harmony, with mature red and dark fruit framed by silky tannins and vibrant acidity. Notes of sous-bois, cedar, and crushed stone unfold gradually, leading to a long and complex finish that continues to evolve in the glass.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Produced entirely from Pinot Noir grown within the walled Clos de Tart vineyard, the wine reflects a unique combination of limestone-rich soils, old vines, and meticulous vineyard management. Traditional Burgundian vinification and extended maturation in French oak preserve both structure and site expression while supporting graceful bottle development.
Investment & Collectibility
Mature vintages of Clos de Tart are increasingly scarce, particularly from benchmark years such as 1990. The monopole status, historic reputation, and limited availability of well-stored bottles continue to drive demand among serious Burgundy collectors seeking wines with established provenance and long aging records.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 1990 Burgundy vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest of the late twentieth century, producing Pinot Noir wines noted for concentration, balance, and remarkable longevity.
