Rating (96 - 99) I was able to taste two vintages of this estate's whites, both brilliant. The 2020 White Head Held High, which is still resting in barrel, is a Chardonnay-dominated blend that includes 12% Roussanne and 8% Marsanne. It has a brilliant nose of ripe pineapple, orange blossom, flower oil, and honeysuckle. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, round, mouth-filling, yet still pure and precise white that has a singular character. It's a great wine in the making. Rating (94 - 96) The 2020 Syrah Head Held High is outrageously beautiful. Dark, inky and explosive, with tons of energy, the 2020 is shaping up to be a gem. The 40% whole dusters and a touch of white wine lend freshness and energy to balance all of the intensity of Syrah in this warm year. Black fruit, mocha, leather and licorice all build nicely in the glass. Syrah seems to have handled the heat better than Grenache in 2020. Reviewed by Antonio Galloni, Issue date: June 2022.
