WINEMAKER NOTES
2020 Peter Michael Belle Cote Chardonnay – Structured Mountain Chardonnay
The 2020 Peter Michael Belle Cote Chardonnay is a distinctive expression of mountain-grown Chardonnay from Knights Valley. Sourced from high-elevation vineyards on the western slopes of Mount St. Helena, Belle Cote is known for its combination of concentration, freshness, and layered complexity, reflecting Peter Michael Winery’s precise, terroir-driven philosophy.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with aromas of ripe pear, lemon zest, and white peach, layered with notes of crushed stone and subtle baking spice. On the palate, it is rich yet focused, offering depth of orchard fruit balanced by vibrant acidity and a firm mineral core. The texture is broad and polished, leading into a long, composed finish with saline and citrus-driven lift.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Belle Cote is produced exclusively from Chardonnay grown in rocky, well-drained soils at elevation, benefiting from warm days and cool nights that preserve acidity. Fermentation is carried out in French oak barrels with extended lees aging to build texture and complexity, while careful oak integration maintains balance and clarity.
Investment & Collectibility
Peter Michael wines are produced in limited quantities and are highly sought after by collectors worldwide. The 2020 Belle Cote Chardonnay offers both immediate appeal and long-term aging potential, making it an attractive option for those seeking structured, cellar-worthy California Chardonnay.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2020 growing season in Knights Valley produced wines of concentration balanced by freshness. Belle Cote stands out for its harmony, precision, and ability to evolve gracefully over time.
