WINEMAKER NOTES
2022 Chateau Lafite Rothschild – First Growth Precision in a Historic Vintage
The 2022 Chateau Lafite Rothschild is a commanding expression of one of Bordeaux’s most revered First Growths. Located in the heart of Pauillac, Lafite’s unmatched terroir and winemaking tradition come into focus in this powerful yet refined vintage. With meticulous vineyard management and restrained yields, the 2022 reflects both the intensity of the growing season and Lafite’s signature elegance.
Tasting Notes
The 2022 vintage delivers blackcurrant liqueur, graphite, and violet on the nose, underscored by classic cedar and pencil shaving nuances. The palate is deep and concentrated, with silky tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish. Despite its power, the wine maintains balance and freshness, indicative of Lafite’s house style even in warm vintages.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Grown on deep gravel over limestone soils, the wine is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with Merlot, and occasionally Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Fermentation takes place in traditional wooden vats, followed by aging in new French oak barrels for 18–20 months. The château’s relentless attention to detail—from organic vineyard practices to selection—is evident in every component.
Investment & Collectibility
As a benchmark for First Growth Bordeaux, Lafite continues to outperform in both auction and private resale markets. The 2022 vintage—produced in limited quantities due to climatic challenges—is a strong candidate for long-term cellaring and portfolio diversification. Perfect for your collection.
Vintage Insights
The 2022 Bordeaux vintage was marked by drought and heat, yet Lafite navigated these extremes through early canopy management and precision irrigation. Despite the challenges, phenolic ripeness was achieved with admirable acidity retention. Many are already comparing 2022 to 2003 in terms of concentration, with the balance of 2016—an exceptional combination for aging potential.
