WINEMAKER NOTES
2001 Chateau Margaux – First Growth Elegance from a Classic Vintage
The 2001 Chateau Margaux continues the estate’s long-standing tradition of crafting age-worthy, refined wines from the heart of Margaux. As one of the five Bordeaux First Growth estates, Château Margaux exemplifies elegance over power, and this vintage offers collectors a beautifully matured expression with decades still ahead.
Tasting Notes
The bouquet is layered and expressive, revealing notes of blackcurrant, violets, dried tobacco leaf, and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with remarkable finesse—showing red plum, graphite, and cedar, supported by fine tannins and a seamless structure. The 2001 finishes long and persistent, echoing the hallmark aromatic complexity of Margaux terroir.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Located on deep gravel soils over limestone, the vineyard is planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller parcels of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The 2001 vintage underwent a traditional vinification with aging in 100% new French oak barrels for approximately 18–22 months. The château’s strict parcel selection ensures only the finest lots make it into the Grand Vin.
Investment & Collectibility
The 2001 Chateau Margaux remains one of the more overlooked collector vintages, offering tremendous value relative to surrounding years. Now entering peak maturity, it’s ideal for near-term drinking or continued cellaring. Perfect for your collection.
Vintage Insights
The **2001 growing season** began with a mild spring and even flowering, followed by a warm, dry summer that allowed for steady phenolic development. A cool September helped preserve freshness and aromatic complexity. In Margaux, the vintage is widely praised for its finesse, clarity of fruit, and balance—particularly for estates that emphasize elegance.
