WINEMAKER NOTES
2001 Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon - An Early Cult Napa Landmark
The 2001 Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the earliest releases from a producer that would become synonymous with Napa Valley cult Cabernet. Sourced from the Kayli Morgan Vineyard in St. Helena, this limited-production wine reflects Jayson Woodbridge's uncompromising approach to vineyard selection and winemaking. More than two decades after harvest, the 2001 vintage offers a rare opportunity to experience an important chapter in the evolution of modern California fine wine.
Tasting Notes
The bouquet reveals blackcurrant, blackberry compote, cedar, graphite, cigar box, and dark chocolate. The palate is layered and harmonious, with mature dark fruit supported by refined tannins and balanced acidity. Notes of espresso, crushed stone, baking spice, and tobacco continue through a long, complex finish that highlights both vineyard character and careful bottle aging.
Winemaking and Vineyard Details
Produced entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Kayli Morgan Vineyard, the wine benefits from rocky volcanic soils and naturally restricted yields that encourage concentration and depth. Careful hand selection, small-lot fermentation, and extended aging in French oak barrels preserve purity while providing the structure needed for long-term cellaring.
Collectibility and Cellaring
Early Hundred Acre vintages are exceptionally difficult to acquire, particularly with documented provenance and proper storage history. The 2001 Kayli Morgan Vineyard bottling occupies an important place in the estate's history and remains highly sought after by collectors of mature cult Napa Cabernet and investment-grade California wines.
Vintage Context and Accolades
The 2001 Napa Valley growing season produced Cabernet Sauvignon wines with outstanding concentration, balance, and aging potential. Mature examples from leading producers continue to demonstrate remarkable freshness and structural integrity.
