WINEMAKER NOTES
2005 Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – Rare Mature Cult Cabernet
The 2005 Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is an increasingly scarce example from one of Napa Valley's pioneering cult estates. Sourced from the Kayli Morgan Vineyard in St. Helena, this single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the meticulous vineyard practices and uncompromising winemaking philosophy that established Hundred Acre among California's most collectible producers. Nearly two decades of bottle age have added further complexity while preserving the wine's remarkable structure.
Tasting Notes
The bouquet unfolds with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry preserve, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, and dark chocolate. The palate is rich yet remarkably composed, revealing mature dark fruit, polished tannins, and vibrant acidity. Layers of espresso, crushed stone, and baking spice develop through a persistent finish that continues to evolve in the glass.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Produced entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Kayli Morgan Vineyard, the wine benefits from well-drained volcanic soils and naturally low yields that promote concentration and site expression. Careful fruit selection, small-lot fermentation, and maturation in French oak barrels preserve both vineyard character and long-term aging potential.
Investment & Collectibility
Early vintages of Hundred Acre have become increasingly difficult to acquire, particularly in pristine condition. The 2005 Kayli Morgan Vineyard bottling combines mature drinking appeal with exceptional rarity, making it a compelling addition for collectors of cult Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and investment-grade California wines.
Vintage Insights & Accolades
The 2005 Napa Valley growing season produced wines of balance, concentration, and longevity. At Hundred Acre, these conditions resulted in a Cabernet Sauvignon that has matured with remarkable precision and depth.
