WINEMAKER NOTES
2008 Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon - Mature Napa Cult Cabernet
The 2008 Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a mature single-vineyard release from one of Napa Valley's most sought-after cult producers. Located just north of St. Helena at the base of Howell Mountain, Kayli Morgan Vineyard is planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2008 combines the richness associated with Hundred Acre with notable freshness, mineral character, and more than fifteen years of bottle development.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with black raspberry, red and black currant, dark plum, and cherry, accompanied by rose petal and savory complexity. With time, notes of espresso, licorice, cocoa, truffle, tea, and iron-rich minerality emerge. The palate is full bodied and richly textured, yet energetic and balanced, with integrated acidity and substantial tannins carrying the fruit through a long, persistent finish.
Winemaking and Vineyard Details
Kayli Morgan is a single estate vineyard planted to 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Its clay-rich soils retain moisture during the growing season, while developing cracks that encourage roots to reach deeper into the earth. Hundred Acre sorts fruit berry by berry, ferments in small French oak fermenters, and employs extended aging in French oak barriques, emphasizing concentration and vineyard character.
Investment and Collectibility
Hundred Acre's limited production and strong following have established Kayli Morgan as an important name among collectible Napa Cabernet. Mature vintages are increasingly difficult to source, and the 2008 offers collectors a combination of bottle age, single-vineyard provenance, critical recognition, and the distinctive style associated with Jayson Woodbridge's flagship Napa wines.
Vintage Insights and Accolades
The challenging 2008 Napa growing season included severe spring frost, drought conditions, and reduced yields. Despite those difficulties, carefully managed vineyards produced concentrated Cabernet with structure and freshness. Later reviews have shown the Kayli Morgan developing impressively in bottle.
