Produced from Merlot grown on the clay-rich slopes overlooking the Tuscan coast near Bolgheri, Masseto established itself during the 1990s as a defining force within the Super Tuscan category. The 1999 vintage now offers a mature expression marked by depth, structure, and evolving complexity.
Tasting Notes
The bouquet reveals aromas of black plum, dried cherry, tobacco, cedar, and graphite. On the palate, the wine is layered and composed, with mature dark fruit framed by integrated tannins and balanced acidity. Earthy mineral tones and subtle spice emerge through a long, refined finish that reflects both site and bottle age.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
Produced entirely from Merlot planted on blue clay soils, Masseto benefits from a vineyard site known for producing wines of concentration and structural tension.
