WINEMAKER NOTES
2011 Schrader LPV – Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2011 Schrader Cellars LPV Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from the iconic Napa Valley site of Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard, highlights the precision and craftsmanship of Thomas Rivers Brown’s winemaking. Despite the cooler and wetter conditions of 2011, Schrader produced a remarkably balanced wine, offering a more restrained, terroir-driven style than in warmer vintages.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of red currant, dried rose petals, and cedarwood mingle with hints of graphite and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied yet finely structured, showcasing red cherry, savory herbs, and a mineral edge. The tannins are supple, carrying the wine to a persistent, elegant finish that emphasizes freshness over opulence.
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
The LPV bottling is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard in St. Helena. The vineyard’s rocky alluvial soils contribute to the wine’s mineral precision and aromatic lift. Aged in **100% new Darnajou and Taransaud French oak barrels**, the 2011 vintage spent close to 20 months in barrel before bottling, with no fining or filtration.
Investment & Collectibility
While 2011 was a challenging vintage in Napa, Schrader’s single-vineyard wines—particularly LPV—stand out for their balance, drinkability, and authenticity. The scarcity of LPV bottlings and Schrader’s cult reputation make this wine a desirable addition for collectors of California Cult Wines. Perfect for your collection.
Vintage Insights
The 2011 Napa Valley vintage was marked by cooler temperatures and autumn rains, yielding wines with lower alcohol, higher acidity, and refined profiles. For producers like Schrader, the result was Cabernet Sauvignons that emphasize elegance and terroir over sheer power—wines that will appeal to collectors seeking nuance and sophistication.
